A Different Kind of Clean

"Cleaning is something you do to a space. Organizing is something you build into it — so it keeps working when you're tired, when school starts, when the baby comes."

My goal with every client is a room that's functional and quiet — not a space that photographs well for a week.

01 — The Before

A House That Fights Back

A house where nothing can be found is a house where everyone is a little more brittle than they need to be. It isn't a tidiness problem — it's a missing system.

78% Report daily stress from household clutter
02 — The Reset

Declutter, Then Group

Everything comes out, and only what you actually use goes back. What's left gets sorted by type, size, and shape — giving the space a logic your family can follow without being told.

5 Steps, in an order that works
03 — The Craft

A Home for Everything

Every group gets a designated spot — easy to find, easy to put back, stored where it's used. Only then do we contain: measured, labeled, and built upward to claim the space most rooms waste.

100% Fits in one place — no garage overflow
04 — The After

Calm. Quiet. Kept.

A one-time cleanout is a haircut — it grows back. What holds is a routine the whole family can keep. That's the difference between a beautiful pantry in September and a calm house in March.

The Method

How I approach a space that needs care

Five steps, always in this order. Skip one and the system unravels by spring.

01

Declutter — be merciless

Pull everything out and keep only what you actually use. The expired baking powder, the duplicate spatula, the appliance you've been meaning to fix — out. Nothing else works until this is done.

02

Group in likes

Sort what's left by type, size, and shape. Baking together, breakfast together, snacks together, tall things with tall things. You're not arranging yet — you're giving the space a logic your family can follow without being told.

03

Find each group a home

Things should be easy to find and easy to put back — and the things you reach for daily should be the easiest of all. Store them where they're used: coffee by the coffee maker, lunch supplies at kid height. If something doesn't have a designated spot, it will become clutter again.

04

Contain last

Only now do you know what storage you actually need. Measure, then buy, and size it so everything fits in one place — if the overflow lives in the garage, the system has already failed. This is also where you go up: risers, stacking bins, a shelf added to a half-empty cabinet, hooks on the back of a door. Most pantries are half air, and claiming that vertical space is usually cheaper than finding another room.

05

Maintain

A one-time cleanout is a haircut — it grows back. What holds is a routine, and clear labeling helps everyone in the family participate. That's the difference between a beautiful pantry in September and a calm house in March.

Meet the Organizer

Kori Bartel

I grew up in a home with four kids and two parents working full time — a house that was loving and loud. I learned early that I couldn't control the noise, but I could control whether we found the shoes.

Later I worked in high-end hospitality and home décor retail, which taught me what a beautiful room feels like — and, just as usefully, how to get that feeling on a budget. Then I had my own children, the toys arrived, and organizing became something closer to a spiritual necessity.

Friends started asking for help — a new house, a new baby, a season that got away from them — and K + K Designs grew from there, one pantry or closet at a time.
